Visit the oldest working Christian Monastery in the world at Mt Sinai where according to the Hebrew bible Moses received the ten commandments from god. Shrouded in religious history and an area mentioned in the bible a number of times, St. Catherines monastery is a fascinating visit and very beautiful.

This trip runs on Mondays, Thursday and Saturdays

We will pick you up from your hotel in Sharm at 5.30am and drive for approximately 2 and a half hours in a comfortable air conditioned coach to the foot of Mt.Sinai.

Visit St. Catherine Monastery

On arrival you will be given a guided tour around the working monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest working Christian monastery in the world.

The monastery was built in the 4th Century enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush, ordered to be built at the site where Moses saw the burning bush. The living bush on the grounds is reportedly the original. The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

A Fatimid mosque was built within the walls of the monastery but has never been used since it is not correctly oriented towards Mecca.

During the seventh century, the isolated Christian anchorites of the Sinai were eliminated; only the fortified monastery remained. The monastery is still surrounded by the massive fortifications that have preserved it. Until the twentieth century, access was through a door high in the outer walls. From the time of the First Crusade, the presence of Crusaders in the Sinai until 1270 spurred the interest of European Christians and increased the number of intrepid pilgrims who visited the monastery.

Although the history of the Monastery is very interesting, a lot of our customers enjoy this excursion for the views and sights alone.

Lunch and Shopping in Dahab

Following a guided tour of St. Catherines monastery you will relax and have a delicious lunch before driving to Dahab which has the biggest shopping area in South Sinai.

Here you will get the chance to browse for local Egyptian handcrafts, carpets, jewellery, perfumes, papyrus and other souvenirs.

You will then be driven back to Sharm which takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
